Wolviston win with Spraire in their Tanks.

Wolviston under 11’s played host to Spraire Lads this weekend at the “Theatre Of Class”. The team was back to full strength, and this made the selection a bit harder. The decision was made to go with the side that beat Brinkburn in the Cup. The game started with yet again Wolviston going through the motions. They seem to be two yards behind their opponents. Chances came quick and fast for both teams, but after Fifteen minutes, Stevie “ Gerrard” Wright with a goal mouth scramble slotted the ball home to take Wolviston into a 1-0 lead. It’s always the same when a team goes ahead in a game that they take the foot of the gas pedal, and it was no different today, with sloppy work in the midfield, Spraire Lads got a break and a quality ball into the Wolviston box seen a quality finish. The game was deadlocked, and Spraire Lads did exactly what Wolviston did within a minute Steve Wright netted his second to put Wolviston in the lead yet again. Wolviston defence looked good with in the middle, with wingmen Shanksy & Joe “Ice Man” Howard, upfront had the pair of Lee Hunt & Lewis Garbutt. Half time whistle blew and Wolviston were on top.

Words were said at halftime that the management believed we were carrying passengers, and this had to change, no subs were used at half time and the same eleven went back out there. The pressure came on straight away from Spraire Lads and took a quality save from Connor McGregor to what I believe turned the game. Within minutes from that save Stevie Wright broke free and slotted the ball passed the opposition keeper with a quality finish getting his well deserved hat trick. It was then the changes were made, Liam Archer cam on for Shanksy to keep the quality of balls coming in from the left, and it was in the 45th minute that Rooney was fouled giving Wolviston a chance within striking range. Brad Popple lined up and struck the sweetest ball into the far left top corner to take Wolviston 4-1 up. Shaun “Chunky” Raybould came on for Hunty, and Hulsy came on for Jamie Flandin who had a great game in the Middle of defence. With 7 minutes to go Bainsy challenged a Spraire lads striker, and to the Coops astonishment, the ref gave a penalty. 4-2, Wolviston were not rattled and kept their composure right till the end and came out on top. Every player again played their part in the win, and confidence in the team grows.

All in all a good performance playing under power, which will only get better.

WOLVISTON ON THE BRINK AGAIN

Wolviston Travellled to local rivals Brinkburn FC for the 1st round of the cup. Brinkburn who are in the same league as Wolviston now looked the underdogs as pre-season seen Wolviston have a 2-0 victory in the Marton Tournament. The game kicked off and once again Wolviston looked very average, slow to the ball, not working as a team, and positional play was a bit of a mess. Fifteen minutes into the game Wolviston found their feet and a great run from Steve “Gerrard” Wright seen him hit the back of the net 1-0 Wolviston took the lead. Wolviston then took the game to Brinkburn and showed them the quality side they are. Lee Hunt made a great run down the Wing to slot the ball home 2-0 The Wolves lead. Within minutes inform striker Lewis “Rooney” Garbutt made a quality curling ball hit the corner of the net and then the game looked out of reach for Brinkburn. The home side kept their hopes up with a late strike which caught Connor off guard 3-1 half time. Now I know we were winning 3-1 but we still had more to offer, and after the kick off the penny dropped, Lewis Shanks made quality balls into the box which caused umpteen problems for the defence, Brad Popple also battled hard with Wrighty in the middle of the park, Joe “Ice Man” Howard again superb in right midfield, Hunty & Rooney up front were sharper than ever. The back four looked awesome, Jamie Flandin fitted great into centre half with Sean Rooney, Jevo and Bainsy were excellent at the fullbacks. The team looked now settled. Changes were made with Liam Archer coming on for injured Bainsy, and Sean “Chunky” Raybould on for Hunty. Wolviston kept the pressure up and got what they deserved out of this game. With constant pressure on the Brinkburn goal it wasn’t long before the inevitable happened. Wolviston’s pressure had to pay off and Steve Wright got a second half hat trick bringing his tally already to six.

A top quality performance by all players made this win a Special One, and the fans I think were a little pleased if I say so myself. I said it last year Football is known as the beautiful game; well I think we have a top side capable of anything, with the backup off Beautiful supporters.

Dads you’re a handsome bunch too, it great that we all get on with each other it makes the Coaches proud to be part of your life.

Wolviston Kick off 2008 Season with a Win Start

Wolviston under 11’s kicked off their season against Cleveland Juniors at Priswick Base.  Wolviston were missing only one player, Brad “Popeye” Popple, but we had enough quality to back this up. The game kicked off, and I believe Wolviston got a shock, Cleveland was first to every ball, they looked sharp, dangerous down the wings, and Wolviston looked very tired. After ten minutes Wolviston finally found their feet, and now looked like the old team we knew from 2007.  Wolviston pressed Cleveland’s goal much, and it finally paid off, the ball broke loose, with Lewis Shanks being first to the ball, looked quickly laying the ball to on rushing Michael Bain from the Left Back Position.  Michael looked up punched the coordinates in and pressed the fire button, only one result from this a top notch quality strike from twenty five yards into the back of the net.  1-0 The Samba Boys were on their way.  Within Five minutes Goal Provider “Shanksy” became Goal Scorer, with another quality strike, 2-0 Wolviston lead.  The midfield now looked stronger with Wright & Flandin battling in the middle; the flanks were run by Joe Howard & Shanksy . It wasn’t long before, Yeah you guessed Stevie “Gerard” Wright got his 2008 goal campaign off to a start, a goal box scramble seen the ball come loose and Steve got onto the end of it, sliding the ball passed the Cleveland keeper 3-0. The defence looked good strong Rooney, Jevo, Bainsy & Hulsy made the formation, with five minutes to half time Cleveland got a free kick just outside the box; a good quality strike made it 3-1 at half time.

Half time saw a change with Sean “Chunky” Raybould coming on; he quickly teamed up well with Lewis “Rooney” Garbutt, and looked dangerous in front of goal.  After sometime Cleveland started to bring the game back to Wolviston and were pressing strong, the defence soaked it up and got through the workload that Cleveland threw at them.  Within Ten minutes of the second half Wrighty got his second which made it 4-1. Joe Howard played his finest game for the Club I believe and stuck to his job like a professional.  Liam Archer came on for Lewis Shanks, and again offered us strength down the Left, Isn’t it nice to have Three Quality Natural Left Footed Players in one Squad. Late on Cleveland got a second with a mix up in defence, but time was not on their side and Wolviston ran out 4-2 winners.

Man of the Match was close with Joe & Stevie Wright having playing a great Game, but unfortunately there can be only one.

2007/2008 MATCH REPORTS

30 APRIL 2008 NORTON & STOCKTON  2-11

Wolviston FC Remain Undefeated

Wolviston travelled to N&S Ancients for the return derby match, DERBY DAY 2, Wolviston made changes to their normal squad giving Shaun Chunky Raybould his first start of the season. Michael Bain in from the start was the other change. The last time these two teams met was quite a game, with N&S proving to be a hard team to brake down. This game was a bit different with Wolviston dominating the game from the first whistle. Two minutes into the game seen Stevie “Gerrard” Wright netting his first of many. 1-0 they led. Bradlee “Popeye” Popple scored Wolviston’s second with a blistering shot. The game was beginning to go away from N&S but they battled with pride. Wright & Popple netted each again, to make the score line 4-0. Half time was upon us when Steve Wright netted his third to take the score to 5-0. Shaun Raybould showed great potential in his first half faultless performance and played a major part in securing the half time lead. Changes were made at the back with Will Henderson coming on for Jevo; Rooney went back up front for Chunky. The game was barely Two minutes old when Wolviston allowed N&S to score and take Wolviston’s conceded goal tally to double figures, which Connor didn’t want. From the kick off, well what can I say, Brad took a shot from the kick off and caught the N&S keeper napping and went straight over his head into the goal 6-1. It wasn’t long before Steve Wright netted twice to take his tally to a staggering 50 goals for the season. 8-1. Brad came off for Curtis Graham who got straight into the action with some quality tackling. N&S got their second with a great strike, which hit the back of the net with force 8-2. There was still time for more drama. Josh Hulme came on for Jamie Hulse and proved to be a force in defence. With five minutes left Wright netted his Sixth and his fifty first. Inform striker Rooney made his mark on the game with three minutes to go, and Midfield Rocket Joe Howard scored with one minute to spare 11-2 it ended, with every player playing a major role in what was to be Wolviston’s biggest win.

Two points to make first to congratulate Steve Wright in scoring Fifty plus goals with two games left is a magnificent achievement. Well done from Coach Coops & all the parents.

Secondly, I keep saying this line to this guy, but I have to say Brad Popple played his best game so far this season, his ability to cross, pass shoot with two feet is a pleasure to watch, this is all due to his hard work all season. A faultless performance from Brad deserved him MAN OF THE MATCH

16 MARCH 2008 EAGLESCLIFFE ELEMENTIS 0-3

The under 10's were crowned division three champions after beating Eaglescliffe Elementis 3-0 away from home.

Wolviston lined up with Connor McGregor in goal, Jamie Hulse and Lewis Jevons in defence, Brad Popple, Steve Wright and Joe Howard in midfield and Lewis Garbutt up front.

The game was played in a teriffic atmoshpere from both teams.  Wolviston were sharp from the first whistle and were up from the game right from the start.

With just five minutes gone Steve Wright netted his 44th goal for the season and the Wolves were 1-0 up.  But Elementis battled on and kept the deficit to one goal at half time.

Despite playing against the wind in the second half Wolviston looked the stronger side and started to show why  they are top of the league.

Wright got his 45th of the season to make it 2-0 and it was only a matter of time before a third was added.  It came five minutes from the end when Lewis Garbutt scored to wrap the points up.  Michael Bain came on as sub and went at Eaglescliffe as soon as he came on.

The final whistle then sparked celebrations amongst the Wolviston fans and players.

Wolviston have played great football in an unbeaten season with every player in the squad contribution to the team's success.

Man of the Match - Lewis Jevons.

2 MARCH 2008 LEVEN AFC  3-0

The doors opened today on Mother's Day at the Theatre of Class, Wolviston played host to the title challenging Leven, and this was a crunch match if ever i saw one. The Team was unchanged with Connor in Goal, Jevo & Hulsy in defence, Stevie ¨Gerrard¨ Wright in centre midfield with his Wing men Bradlee ¨Popeye¨ Popple and Joe ¨Ice Man¨ Howard. Strike force was Rooney. The game kicked off and Wolviston looked sharper, but cracks were appearing in Wolviston line up, and Coach Coops knew as Nathan who coaches the defence during the game his shouts at the defence was lets say true, Jevo & Hulsy looked a litlle bit shaky, midfield didn't track back and Connor made some great saves to keep us in the game early on. Eight minutes into the game Wolviston changed the outlook, Joe reeived the ball, and passed it into the running Wrighty, he slipped the ball passed two and blastd the ball into the net, 1-0 Wolviston were in front. Half time came, and words had to be spoken from The Special One. The guys took what was siad like a true professional and came out a different side, Jevo & Hulsy were like an Iron Curtain, Midfield tracked back, Rooney came short for the ball. Leven pressed on and looked dangerous, but Wolviston rode the storm. Ten minutes from the ball was won by Jevo, Joe slid the ball through and Stevie Wright got on the end of it to hammer the ball into the net 2-0 the comfort Zone was there. Changes were imminant in the team as legs were tiring, Shaun ¨Chunky¨ Raybould went as Striker, Will came on for Joe Howard and Jevo moved into Right midfield, now every guy who played and went on knew what was asked of them, and let me say they did it all, Wolviston were going at Leven from all angles and Brad looked sharp as ever, his corners are by far the best in the League. Five miniutes to go Kyle ¨The Fox¨ came on for now Jevo, by the way Jevo, got to say you did well today Kidda....... where was i oh Yeah.... Wolviston brought three subs on and i have to say not many teams in this league could do that. with only Three minutes left the ball came in from a Brad corner and Stevie was there to net Wolvo's Third and bagged his Hat trick. The whistle went and Three valuble points were had. Got to say guys you listened at half time, you took on board, and delivered, well done.

Just a quick word to say HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the mams, you gave up your day to support your boys, that's what its all about. Thank you Very Much.

By the way Your Routine aint upto much, Lindy if i trained my boys like you are training your girls, i would of been sacked. lol Only Joking Lindy,

keep the girls pracitising.

18 NOV 2007 GREATHAM FC 'B' HOME 5-0

ROONEY ON TOP FORM

Today at the Theatre of Class, Wolviston played host to an inform Greatham side. Wolviston fielded a strong Seven with Connor in goal, Lewis Jevons and jamie Hulse in defence, Midfield seen Brad Popple, Steve Wright and Joe Howard. Strike came in the force of Lewis "Rooney" Garbutt. The game started with Greatham coming out of the blocks, and looking a well  organised team. Chances came at both ends, but Wolviston breaking the deadlock with a goal from Lewis "Rooney" Wolviston then started to get into the stride and with a neat run Steve " Gerard" Wright, doubling the tally and wolviston 2-0 up. Hats off to Greatham the heads still up fought on. Wolviston came in 2-0 half time lead. Now the game could swing as Greatham had the wind in their favour. They again started well and  pressured the Wolviston Defence, but in my eyes the two defenders i believe are the best in any of the leagues by far. They tackle, back each other up and praise each other when needed. Wolviston then thought hang on a minute we need to work a little bit harder to bring the game home and Three points in the bag. Rooney half way through the second half got his second and Wolviston's Third. Wolviston in my eyes have not produced their best yet and i truely believe this, With five minutes to go Wolviston started to dominate the game and Stevie "Gerrard" Wright got the fourth and his second to take his tally to a staggering Twenty Nine for the season. with four minutes to go "Rooney notched his hat trick and wolviston's fifth. Now i have left the best till last, This performance from an individual was quite amazing today, Brad"Popeye" Popple looked a true star, his ability to use both feet and deliver quality balls in to the box was a pleasue to see. His attitude today as all his team mates was quite professional, and i think we have a lot more to offer from this team.

Man of the Match Brad "Popeye" Popple.

7 OCT 2007 TRIMDON UNITED HOME 4-0

WOLVISTON GO TOP

Wolviston played hosts to Trimdon today with a top of the table clash. The crowds filled the Theatre of Hope Stadium. The side was named with an unchanged side of Connor in goal, Jevans & Hulse in defence, bains, Wright, Howard were the midfield, with Rooney up front. Now not knowing much about the Trimdon side Coach Coops just explained one thing, Play like we did the previous week. Now Wolviston got out the blocks early with the pressure really on the trimdom Keeper, he held out with some good saves but it was only time before the break through came. Wolviston got the corner with Bainsy leg foot in form whipped a cracking curler into the box, and who was there but Steve "Gerrard " Wright with a bullet header which came of the under side of the bar and hit the back of the net. This got the team going even more with chances coming rapidly. Once again Steve got the ball in the midfield and took on three players and cracked the ball into the net. Now Trimdon then decided to get themselves back in the game and really put the pressure on Wolviston, and around Two minutes from half time tehy were clean through, but inform Keeper Connor made a point blank save to keep the score 2-0. The second half seen Wolviston out the blocks early again and it was not long before Steve Wright got his Hat trick and Wolvistons third. Midfield with Joe and bains making runs getting the ball into the box was always going to please Coach Coops, and it wasnt long before Wolviston got their Fourth and Rooney his first. Jevans & Hulse were strong at the back, and never looked under pressure, they dealt with it at ease, so changes were made again with Josh coming on for the much improved Jevans and Will for Solid as a rock Hulse. Curtis came on for Joe and Shaun for Rooney. Brad who has been missing for the last two weeks came on for the injured Bains, Now I would like to say it's great when you can change Five players and the team does not look or paly any different. Josh who i must say looked very comfortable and has improved 100% . The game went on with Wolviston causing many problems for Trimdon and eventually ran out 4-0 winners, and if my maths are right we are now Top of the League, well done lads for a quality performance once again.

Man of the Match Steve "Gerrard" Wright.

Now the second game was!!!!!!!!!! Well a bit of a blur, and im sat here now still not knowing how many goals we actually finished up. One player in that game who caught my eye was Jamie Hunt, he was moved up to the Midfield and did not look out of place at all, well done Jamie!!! With Brad "Popeye" Popple in the heart of the midfield Shaun up front, Josh & Will in defence and Aaron in goal, was a well balanced spine. Curtis was on the right and Hunt on the left. Now the fun begins, Not sure who scored when and how many but i will give it a Bl**dy good try lol. Coops got his Lucazade Sport and his double Milky Way bar looked up and i think it was 1-0. Hang on the goal scorers will come later. it was soon 2-0, then 3-0, & 4-0. Half time came and the discussion at half time was keep a clean sheet, and also try to get double figures, Yep thats right Shaun 8 i asked for lol. Now with pressure going only one way 5-0, 6-0, 7-0. then 8-0, the faces on the crowd was are we at the wrong game, who the heck are these, even the crowd from Billingham towns game started to turn round to watch the quality of this team. The passing from Hunt Popple, and Graham was superb. Changes were made and soon more goals flying in from well i really dont know, 9-0, 10-0, 11-0 & then finally 12-0. Well go on the you try to right about a Twelve goal Thriller. Right the Goal scorers are as follows.

Popple 5, Graham 2, Raybold 2, Rooney 2, Bains 1.

23 SEPT 2007 MOUNT PLEASANT RANGERS 'B' AWAY 1-3

Wolviston were away to Mount Pleasant today and we all know from last year this was the downfall that cost us the League. The squad were missing one of their key players in Brad Popple, but we have numerous lads who can fit in and do the job.

Man of the Match Steve Wright.

9 SEPT 2007 EAGLESCLIFFE ELEMENTIS AWAY 3-3

WOLVISTON SHARE THE POINTS

Well the 2007/2008 season kicked off for the newly formed under 10s. They arrived early and looked confident. Just a quick word to say well done to Connor McGregor who was named as the official Captail of Wolviston 2007/2008 season. The side started with Connor in goal Jamie Hunt & Lewis Jevans in Defence, Midfield had Brad Popple, Steve Wright & Joe Howard. Upfront was Lewis Garbutt. The Game started well and chances came and went for both teams. It wasnt long before the deadlock was broken, unfortunately it went Eaglecliffes way. 0-1 the Wolves were down. It wasnt long before Wolviston got back into their stride, and Yeah you guessed Brad Popple came up trumps.1-1 Wolves now started to dominate the game and Striker Lewis "Rooney" Garbutt grabbed the second and gave Wolviston the lead. Eaglescliffe were starting to come back at Wolviston and it paid off with a wild shot dropping over the head of Connor"Skipper" McGregor 2-2. Wolviston regrouped and this game could of went either way, probably one of the best games i have seen for chances going begging. Stevie" Gerrard" Wright found himself clean in on goal and did what he does best, Burying into the net 3-2. With Three minutes to go Wolviston made two changes and pput an extra defender in there, Will Henderson and Michael Bains for Steve Wright. With only 30 seconds to go Eaglescliffe struck a quality shot on goal, and Connor made a quality save, but the ball fell loose to an unmarked Striker who slotted the ball home making it 3-3. This i think was a fair result in the end and credit to both teams and managers.

Man of the Match Connor McGregor.
